Former CTS Professor Honored by
Lutheran Bible Translators
FORT WAYNE, IN (CTS)—Dr. Eugene and Bernice Bunkowske have been honored with the Lutheran Bible Translators Lifetime Achievement Award. Lutheran Bible Translators (LBT) of Aurora, Illinois, chose the Bunkowskes in recognition of their more than 50 years of Bible translation and service to Christ in the United States and around the world, especially as pioneering missionaries in West African translation.
Dr. Bunkowske served on the Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, faculty from 1982–2002. He was a professor of Pastoral Ministry and Missions and founding director of the Ph.D. in Missiology program at CTS. “Concordia Theological Seminary is delighted to hear of this prestigious award being given to Dr. Eugene and Bernice Bunkowske. They exemplify Christian outreach and missions in every waking moment. May the Lord continue to bless their labors in proclaiming Jesus Christ crucified as the Savior of all,” commented CTS President, Dr. Dean O. Wenthe.
“Dr. and Bernice Bunkowske have shared, lived and acted on their passion for reaching out and spreading God’s Word to the whole world over half a century…so far,” said Dr. Douglas L. Rutt, CTS Associate Professor of Pastoral Ministry and Missions and LBT Board Chairman who had the privilege of presenting the award to the Bunkowskes.
Dr. Bunkowske currently serves as Professor of Christian Outreach at Concordia University, St. Paul, Minnesota. He and Bernice have four children and eleven grandchildren.
