DELTO
GUIDELINES

  • In order to emphasize the non-degree nature of the DELTO course of study, grading will be on a pass/fail basis.

  • The DELTO curriculum will be taught on the basis of an appropriate use of the Bible in the vernacular with the understanding that DELTO is dealing with extraordinary circumstances but that the Biblical languages are still necessary for the life of the church.

  • The DELTO curriculum consists of 30 courses, with the first 10 courses being acceptable as taught through district-level programs, based on equivalency to the syllabi presented at:

    http://www.lcms.org/graphics/assets/media/BHE/delto_curriculum.doc

  • The standard for meeting the requirements for OT Bible, NT Bible and Summary of Christian Doctrine (Courses 1-3) are the Entry-level Competence Exams commissioned by the LCMS Board for Higher Education and maintained in consultation with the LCMS Seminaries and Concordia University System faculties. A score of 70 percent is the level required for passing.

  • The Seminaries will explore a variety of delivery systems, class structures, and settings for deployment (e.g. Internet, on-campus experiences, regional centers, CUENet, etc.)

  • The Seminaries will begin cycles (classes/cohorts) as often as possible, given the limitations of student load and professional availability.

  • Class sizes will ordinarily be limited to 15-20 students.

  • Students will enroll in the DELTO program at one of the Seminaries while they are taking district-level courses. The districts will report the student's progress to the Seminary. The Personal Growth Advisor at the Seminary will provide guidance regarding pastoral suitability and leadership development with the student, starting at course 11.

  • A total of $745/course will be charged to the LCMS districts for courses 11-30. Districts arrange for students' financial aid. Students pay for their own travel costs, application and enrollment fees and book fees. The Seminaries will pay the pastor-mentors.
