Dr. John Nordling has been called to Concordia Theological Seminary as an Associate Professor of Exegetical Theology. He is a prominent Latinist and Greek Scholar. Dr. John Nordling is a 1985 graduate (M.Div.) of Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis. He also studied at Washington University, St. Louis, and studied Latin at the Vatican. He has his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He served as a parish pastor at Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church and School (1990-1994) and taught at Valparaiso University (1994-1999). Among his numerous articles and lectures, he is also the author of the book, Philemon, for the Concordia Commentary series. He has held the office of secretary on the Board of Regents, Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis. And He comes to us, Concordia Theological Seminary, from Baylor University where he was a professor of Latin and Greek.

The Exegetical Department has begun Jerome Exegetical Seminar. Jerome Exegetical Seminar (JES) is a gathering of faculty, graduate students, and select M. Div. students who will meet monthly to foster an atmosphere of exegetical conversation and reflection. JES allows both students and faculty, side by side, to spearhead the exegetical discussion through presentation of the proposed topic, through a prepared response, and through active discussion. In this way JES is an organized but yet more open avenue for a theological conversation which often not conducive to the classroom setting. It is also the hope that this setting will encourage students, who are about to enter the ministry, to engage topics on a higher exegetical level and thus to be able to offer additional benefits in the future to the synod at large.
