Roland Frank Ziegler was born August 22, 1966 in Heilbronn-Sontheim to Manfred Ziegler and Lore, nee Haeussermann. He attended elementary school in Auenstein and grammar school in Beilstein. In 1986 he studied evangelical theology at the Eberhard-Karls-Universitat in Tubingen, mainly occupied with Greek and Hebrew. In 1987-89 he continued studies in Tubingen attending lectures and seminars and becoming acquainted with members of SELK. In order to obtain more knowledge about SELK, he went to Oberursel Seminary (Lutherische Theologische Hochschule, LThH), and studied under professors Hoffmann, Roensch and Gunther. In 1990 he went to the University of Erlangen to study under Slenczka (systematics) and Seitz (practical theology). Receiving a scholarship in 1990/91, he attended Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, where he studied under professors Preus, Scaer, Marquart and Weinrich. Having completed his studies in Oberursel 1991/93, he was a teaching assistant at LThH in the systematic department 1993/95, at which time he was accepted as a doctoral candidate by Professor Bayer, Tubingen. Since then he has been working on a thesis in systematic theology entitled "The Lord's Supper - promissio or eucharistia? The Eucharistic Prayer in Lutheran Service as a Dogmatic Problem. A Contribution to the Relationship between Liturgy and Theology of the Lord's Supper."
