F A Q
Christ Academy 2008 will be from June 15 - 28, 2008. When can I register for Christ Academy 2008? You can register for Christ Academy 2008 starting January 1, 2008. "I really enjoyed it, especially once I realized the true significance of the liturgy.""Great! Services kept me focused throughout the day." "The worship had to be the best. There were four services that I attended daily. It sounds like a lot, but three of them were fifteen minutes. It was really unique how all of the 'eager-to-sing' male voices sounded together without an organ. Most of the people on campus attend chapel,so it was pretty cool." "I enjoyed studying God's Word, learning Greek, listening to the teacher,
andgetting into the Scripture in depth." "I went there with low expectations because I didn't know anyone. But by the second day, I was having fun with everyone because they were all so nice. I have been to other camps, but you won't find this quality of character from any other one. I made a lot of friends, I had a fantastic time, and I am going to try to go next year. Even if you don't know if you want to become a pastor for sure, this will help you to define what you want to do." Where will I stay during Christ Academy? You will stay in dormitory rooms on the seminary campus, two guys per room. Each room has two closets, two chairs, and two beds. Bedding and towels will be provided. What will I study at Christ Academy? Christ Academy, like Concordia Theological Seminary, is about Christ crucified who is present in the Word and Sacraments to forgive and dwell in His Church. Students of Christ Academy will study the four main areas of theology: Exegetical (biblical interpretation), Systematic (a systematic presentation of our Christian faith in the contemporary world), Historical (how the church throughout the ages has confessed the faith), and Practical (the application of theology to life). In addition, convocations will be taught by seminary professors. Do I need any books for Christ Academy? Some books will be required. A list will be sent to you upon your acceptance into the Academy. All of these books will be available once the student arrives. One of the following translations of the Bible is also necessary: NKJV, RSV, NAS, ESV, or KJV. Will there be musical opportunities? Students will participate in the Academy choir, which will sing for special worship services during the Academy. Students who play brass instruments may bring them to participate in worship services. There will be opportunities for basketball, soccer, and other sports depending upon the interests of the Academy students. In addition, our spacious campus is a great place for running or golf! What role does worship play at Christ Academy? A very central role! Worship is primarily where we connect with Christ, who is present in the Word and the Sacraments. Therefore, we are happy to offer daily Word and prayer services (historically called Matins, Vespers, and Compline), as well as Holy Communion each week. Students also help lead worship by participating in the Academy choir. May I arrive early or spend an extra night? Yes. $500 covers tuition, room, board, and activity fees. In addition, spending money will be needed for books, some snacks, and optional activities. I came to Christ Academy last year. Will there be a new curriculum for returning students? Yes.
