THE FOOD AND CLOTHING CO-OPS
Introduction to the Clothing Co-op
The Clothing Co-op is housed in Spiegel Hall, a former dormitory, and is an aid for all students.
Clothing and household items are available without charge. The Co-op also makes available large
and small appliances and furniture to students. All items at the Co-op are donated by individuals,
organizations and congregations. No points are needed at the Clothing Co-op.
Introduction to the Food Co-op
The Food Co-op is a small store, located on the lower level of the Student Commons, providing
most grocery items needed by a family. 100% of the items are donated, either in-kind (i.e.
cans of vegetables, loaves of bread) or in cash, which staff uses to purchase grocery items.
A point system is used to equitably distribute items for all eligible students. Available items
include meat, especially chicken, vegetables, fruits, cereal, staple pantry items, detergents,
personal care products and baby items. Donations come from congregations, organizations and
individuals of the LCMS for the purpose of assisting students as they prepare to become ordained
pastors, missionaries and deaconesses to serve the church. The Food Co-op program represents
assistance given in addition to financial aid and is not based on financial need.
