CTSFW Announces The Carl and Erna Weinrich Chair in New Testament and Early Church Studies
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (CTSFW)—During the commencement ceremony on May 19, 2017, the Rev. Dr. Lawrence R. Rast Jr., president of Concordia Theological Seminary (CTSFW), Fort Wayne, announced the establishment of The Carl and Erna Weinrich Chair in New Testament and Early Church Studies.
This chair has been established through the generosity of Carl and Erna Weinrich, the parents of the Rev. Dr. William C. Weinrich, professor of Historical Theology at CTSFW. Planning for this started years ago before Erna was taken to be with the Lord and is a lasting tribute to their life-long Christian faith.
The Rev. Dr. James G. Bushur, associate professor of Historical Theology at CTSFW, was named as the first holder of the chair. Bushur joined the CTSFW faculty in the fall of 2006, specializing in patristics. He received his B.A. in Biblical Literature from Taylor University, Upland, Indiana (1989), M.Div. (1993) and S.T.M. (1998) from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Durham, UK, in 2010.
“This endowed faculty chair affirms the long-standing commitment at CTSFW of supporting faithful and gifted teachers of the Scriptures and church history who will help form the next generations of Lutheran pastors and deaconesses,” explained CTSFW Academic Dean Dr. Charles A. Gieschen. “We truly appreciate the generosity of the Weinrich family. We are thrilled to honor the exemplary service and scholarship of Dr. Bushur by naming him as the first holder of this chair.”
