Monday, September 19, A. D. 2005 Concordia Theological Seminary (CTS) in Fort Wayne, Indiana is hosting a symposium marking the centennial of the birth of Dr. Bo Giertz. In conjunction with the much-celebrated recent release of the brand-new, The Hammer of God - Revised Edition, and on the heels of the much appreciated St. Louis Giertz symposium, the Giertz Centennial Committee of America is extremely pleased to announce this highly anticipated event! This Symposium that commemorates the work of Dr. Bo Giertz will be hosted at Concordia Theological Seminary, in Sihler Auditorium. Speakers are the Rev. Hans Andrae, Dr. Naomichi Masaki, Prof. John T. Pless, and Dr. Gene Edward Veith. For additional information contact The Giertz Centennial Committee of America, c/o First Trinity Lutheran Church 535 N. Neville St., Pittsburgh, PA 15213. You may also phone the Rev. Eric Andrae at 412-683-4121, or e-mail him at era@FirstTrinity.net. Rave reviews are in from the St. Louis Giertz symposium! "Giertz was indeed one of the most significant Lutheran thinkers of the
twentieth century. The symposium gave a good impetus to further reflection on his work and to the academic study of his contributions and his environment. I hope that such study and discussion continues!" "You don't know Giertz until you've attended this symposium, 'visited' one of his congregations [via video and eyewitness description], and watched Katrina's faithful work come alive on the screen." "The symposium engaged us in good solid theology and no apologies were made for that and none need be." "As a lay person, wondering if I was attending something 'over my head,' I was surprised and delighted that the Symposium so clarified the book for me." "It became apparent to me during this symposium that Bo Giertz had an excellent understanding of the article of justification and the heart of a pastor who knew how to apply the truth of this article for the comfort of sinners. Every Lutheran pastor will benefit from an acquaintance with Giertz's writings, especially, The Hammer of God." All fees have been waived for pre-seminary students who are considering attending CTS.
