Playground

Eight years ago, Professor Richard Nuffer, while on a trip to Texas, spotted a playscape. He presented this idea as a mission project to the administration. His vision was to implement this same special plan on the seminary campus. We now have exciting plans to construct a new playscape for our churches and community on the seminary grounds in October. We have already raised $90,000 for this project. However, the cost of the construction is high, and we would like to raise at least $60,000 more to make this facility accessible to children with disabilities.

What is a playscape? A playscape is a creative play area for children. It is our hope that LCMS Lutherans will come together with our community to build a playground and pavilion for our churches, schools, and community. This mission will help to establish relationships with people of all ages.

We envision this playscape as a place for your missions, parties, study groups, and much more. Part of the seminary mission statement is to "teach the faithful, reach the lost, and to care for all."

We are asking for your support to help us in these specific ways:

  • Special fundraisers with Thrivent matching funds to benefit the playscape.
  • Donations from your church/congregants, Lutheran Foundations funds.
  • Advertising through bulletin inserts, newsletters announcements, and the like.
  • Volunteers to help build the playscape, donate materials, and work with the steering committee on special events.
  • Prayer for the Playscape project.

Key Events:

  • Design Day - Tuesday May 6, 2008: Lutheran grade school children, their families, and churches will be invited on campus to help us celebrate and kick off the design of the playscape.
  • Playscape Construction Week - October 7-11, 2008: We need your help! There are lots of committees to serve on!

Will you please help us to spread the word to your congregational families? We are in great need of your support to make this a success. Thank you for your help, and GodŐs blessings to you.
