Black History Month

FROM THE LIBRARY'S HOME PAGE ON THE WEB, YOU CAN ACCESS MANY USEFUL AND RELEVANT ONLINE RESOURCES.

While the secular world celebrates February as Black History Month, we in the Lutheran Church also celebrate the month by recognizing the work of the Lutheran Church among African-American Lutherans. On February 2, Dr. Bryant C. Clancy, Jr., of the Synod's Commission on Black Ministry, spoke at a convocation about "Lutheranism among African-Americans." This convocation followed a chapel ser-vice in which the choir from Zion Lutheran Academy sang-a school which serves both Black (and White) Lutherans in Fort Wayne's inner city.

A variety of books on Christianity and Lutheranism among African-Americans, as well as their relations with white American Christians, are on display in the library. Racism and the Church is a report of the CTCR on the problem of racism and its solution. Defending Black Faith offers "answers to tough questions about African-American Christianity" (such as "What do you say when others complain that Christians did not oppose the slave trade?"). In Breaking Down Barriers, Dwight Perry, a Black evangelical, helps Christians of all colors understand the African-American church, enabling them to do away with misconceptions and build a new future together
