Black History Month

While the secular world celebrates February as Black History Month, we in the Lutheran Church also celebrate the month by recognizing the work of the Lutheran Church among African-American Lutherans. On February 7, Dr. Bryant C. Clancy, Jr., of the Synod's Commission on Black Ministry, preached at chapel and spoke at a convocation about Lutheranism among African-Americans.

We have moved several display cabinets and put them on the south side of the library, near the reading tables on the main floor. In these cabinets we have placed a number of books, videos, maps, and CDs demonstrating the history of Black Americans and the work of the Christian church-and especially the Lutheran Church-among Black Americans. Browse these items for some you might like to check out when we take the display down at the end of the month.

We were also glad to host a display from the Urban League of Fort Wayne. The display was a traveling exhibit from Fort Wayne's "newest and most exciting museum," The African/African-American Historical Museum. Founded in 1998, the Museum Society's goal is to promote Black heritage and culture in northeast Indiana.
