LHF and World-Wide Lutheranism

Walther Library shows that there are Lutherans around the world

Here are a few new titles from the library's shelves:

If you had trouble reading any of these titles, be assured that there are Lutherans around the world — and even in Fort Wayne — who have no trouble with the languages shown here. These titles represent some of the many areas in which the Lutheran Church is spreading Christianity.

Lutheran Heritage Foundation of Sterling Heights, Michigan, is one organization dedicated to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the translation, publishing, and distribution of confessional Lutheran books and materials. Their work has reached over 50 regions in the world and covers 40 languages. Some of those languages (such as Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian) are spoken in areas that were once predominantly Lutheran but have lost much of their Lutheran heritage. Others are in languages (such as Swahili and TshiLuba) spoken in areas where there has been very little Lutheranism in the past.

The Lutheran Heritage Foundation is a Recognized Service Organization of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Prof. Kurt Marquart is chairman of their Board of Directors. Walther Library is pleased to be working with Lutheran Heritage Foundation to catalog a copy of each of their publications. You can find the publications of the Foundation in our catalog by searching for "Lutheran Heritage Foundation" as an author.

Other organizations are also involved in publishing Lutheran material. The Chinese translation of Martin Chemnitz's Two Natures in Christ was published by China Lutheran Seminary in Taipei. The Japanese translation of Luther's Large Catechism was published by Seibunsha in Tokyo.

Luther's message of salvation by grace alone, not by man's own work, but because of the sacrificial suffering and death of Jesus Christ, was promoted by the printing press. The printing press continues to promote that same message today, in many areas of the world, and in many languages. Rejoice as you see these new volumes in the library, even if you can't read a word of them.
