Library Director to Attend ILC Conference in Brazil

Director Roethemeyer will visit several seminary libraries in South America

The International Lutheran Council (ILC) is a world-wide association of established confessional Lutheran church bodies which proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the basis of an unconditional commitment to the Holy Scriptures as the inspired and infallible Word of God and to the Lutheran Confessions contained in the Book of Concord as the true and faithful exposition of the Word of God. The ILC will hold the first "ILC Theological Seminaries Conference" April 5-8, 2001, in Brazil under the theme: "Preparing Lutheran Pastors for Today."

"The conference is intended to be a forum for the seminary professors to share concerns and find encouragement in a common confessional ministry for their churches,"stated Ronald R. Feuerhahn, Professor at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and Chairman of the ILC Seminary Relations Standing Committee. Prof. Robert Roethemeyer will attend along with three other professors from Concordia Theological Seminary: Dr. Arthur Just, Prof. Larry Rast, and Dr. Douglas Rutt. Prof. Roethemeyer will speak and be available for private consultation on library technology and electronic resources. Most of the seminaries in the ILC are small, and do not have large libraries (such as we have in the United States). Most also do not have full-time professional assistance in the libraries. For such seminaries, resources such as CD-ROMs and the Internet are very important.

The conference is being held at Lutheran University of Brazil, near Säo Leopoldo RS, Brazil. Nearby is the seminary, Concordia Institute in Säo Leopoldo. In addition to meeting with the faculty members at the conference who oversee their libraries, Prof. Roethemeyer will make a two-day visit before the conference at Concordia Institute, Säo Paulo SP, Brazil, and after the conference at Seminario Concordia, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
