ATLAS: Full-Text Theological Journals Online

THEOLOGICAL STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO FULL-TEXT ARTICLES IN OVER 50 JOURNALS—VIA THE WORLD WIDE WEB

As a member of the American Theological Library Association, Concordia Theological Seminary can provide another great resource for students: ATLAS (American Theological Library Association Serials).

ATLAS is an online collection of major religion and theology journals selected by leading religion scholars and theologians. Users can read current articles or research the history of a topic from 1949 to the present. In the first phase of ATLAS, researchers will be able to use the ATLA Religion Database as a search tool to retrieve images of the pages in more than fifty different journals. In the second phase, page images will be supplemented with fully searchable texts of the articles, offering users a virtual browse through the stacks.

To find the full-text of theological journals, follow these links: From the library home page, click on “PALNI Site Search” in the left-hand frame. After clicking on the “Click here to start” button—and then typing in your library barcode if you are off-campus—choose “Other Online Resources” near the bottom of the frame. Then choose “OCLC FirstSearch.” In the dropdown list, select the “ATLAReligion” database. Then proceed to search. When you have retrieved a results list, any entry with a “Go to Remote Full Text (ATLA)” link will have the full-text available.

Access to ATLAS is currently only possible from the campus. If you follow the steps listed above from off-campus, you will see that “OCLC FirstSearch” is not on the “other resources” page. You can still search the ATLA Religion database at home (selected from the list on the page with the “Other Online Resources” link) and keep a list of relevant results. However, you will have to bring the list to the library (or Lilly Computer Lab) to read the full-text online or off-line.
