Title:The Library Children and Family CornerThe Library's Children and Family CornerWE OFFER SEVERAL SERVICES FOR FAMILIES, CHILDREN, AND CHILDREN-AT-HEARTWalther Library has had a collection of juvenile books-that is, books for children-for some time. Last year, the books were moved to the corner of the library where they are currently located, the northwest corner nearest the chapel. The order of the books on the shelves was the same as all the other books in the library: in order by Library of Congress call number. During the summer, primarily under the direction of our new Technical Services Librarian, Patty Braden, and our new/returning cataloging assistant, Jodi Rutowicz, the books were re-arranged to group them by reading level or subject matter. (See the last article on page 2 for an introduction to Patty and Jodi.) All the Arch Books are shelved together in one group. Children's literature is divided into pre-school, elementary, and young adult. The books on particular subjects are divided into these areas: devotionals, prayer books, Christmas books, church year, Bibles and Bible stories, mission books, and Martin Luther. There is also a section of non English-language books. In addition to re-organizing the books, we moved children's videos from the main video collection to the same corner. Now in the Children and Family Corner, you can find animated stories from Nest Family Enter-tainment, PBS for Kids, Nanny & Isaiah Adventures, and videos of the Goosehill Gang. All these videos are available for checkout. If you want instead to view the videos in the library, the corner has a TV and VCR for your convenience. Additional plans for our Children and Family Corner are being made. Initially, our goal is to have a story time once per week with the children from Christ Child Learning Center. Seminary moms and dads with toddlers will be invited also. Watch for more news about story time. |
