The University of Notre Dame has many libraries on its campus ranging from informal hall libraries with a few shelves of books to the 14-story Theodore M. Hesburgh,  C. S. C., Library. Most of the major libraries and collections fall under the auspices of the University Libraries system, which includes six branches and the Hesburgh Library. The University Libraries hold over 2 million volumes, 2.5 million microform units and 22,600 serials.
