To share the results of their research and analysis, scholars publish their larger works in book form and their smaller works as articles in journals or chapters in books. Typically, the publishers of scholarly work will have an expert review the book or article before publication. The result is that high quality essays explore a wide variety of topics and help a field of knowledge grow.

In the last few years, scholarly journals have begun to offer the content of their publication on the Internet. Some brand new journals have begun publication in electronic form only.
