Anyone visiting the campus of CTS will know it is August, as the incoming class of seminarians is walking around with cards cupped in their hands memorizing their Greek and getting ready for that final exam; it has been a long ten weeks! After working with each of them from a distance in their hometown this past year, it is exciting to observe it all come together with their actual move to Fort Wayne.

Summer Greek began with an ice cream social in June sponsored by the Seminary Wives Association. Many lifetime friendships are formed at this event. With the husbands busily studying in their personal groups after class, some ladies gather with their children and partake of community events: the children’s zoo, city festivals, park activities, free summer concerts at Franke Park, etc. Many of the married men live in the dorm for the summer while taking Greek. Their children may be finishing up summer programs in their hometown; some wives stay behind to sell their homes. I applaud all of them for making a way. In Admission, with each interested person who calls, we try to do «whatever it takes» to answer the questions, to work with him while he is visiting, and to follow up with a phone call after he returns home.

All of the men who are here have done precisely that. They initiated that first phone call to Admission to obtain information or to inquire if they could visit our campus and talk with the admission people, the financial aid officer, or to attend a class. In that way they had the information to continue with their thinking and prayers as they made their big decision. But, then, with everything in life, doesn’t it all begin with that first step?
