When a man makes the decision to attend the seminary, there are so many changes for both him and his family. There are several aspects that make the decision just a little bit easier.

Overall the cost of living runs about 10% less than the national average. Items included in "cost of living" include housing, transportation, utilities, and health care expenses. This means that dollars spent for these items will go much further in the Fort Wayne area. Health care costs are becoming an increasing concern for families, and Fort Wayne's lower than average cost for health care is a real plus. Health care providers are plentiful with many choices available as you choose a physician and specialists. The Lutheran Healthcare network has several hospitals in Fort Wayne, including an ever-expanding Lutheran Hospital campus.

The crime rate in Fort Wayne is well below the national average, partly because Fort Wayne is smaller than many urban areas. "The best thing about Fort Wayne is that it is really a comfortable and secure place to live," says Brad Vogt, a second year seminarian at CTS. "There are plenty of activities available if you want to take advantage of them, yet we never have felt like we are living in a ‘big' city."

There are many choices for education at every level. For preschool through high school there is an abundance of excellent Lutheran schools. The public school systems in and around Fort Wayne have a great deal to offer, as well. When looking for higher education, Fort Wayne is home for a satellite campus of Concordia University--Mequon. Other universities include: Indiana-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, St. Francis University, and several technical and business schools.

These are just a few examples to show living in Fort Wayne can be very affordable and enjoyable. Of course, every family has different needs, and you will want to take a look at your own financial situation. An excellent tool to decide on a budget for your family is provided by the Financial Aid Office. Simply go online to www.ctsfw.edu, click on Admission, click on Financial Aid, and you will see "Cost of Attendance" budgets for families of all sizes.
