Concordia Experience
By Seminarian Brad Hopfensberger
My Concordia experience has not just included
one Concordia, but two. After spending
two years at Concordia University-River
Forest I visited Concordia University-Seward,
Nebraska for a semester. As I look back on my
college life at Concordia University I now see how
it had prepared me for what was to come at
Concordia Theological Seminary.
Concordia-Seward was a great chance for me to
enjoy another school as well as to be able to see
CURF from the outside. One of the key aspects of
going to Concordia-River Forest (CURF) were the
theology classes that I was enrolled in. After I
returned back to CURF from Concordia University
in Seward I greatly appreciated how the theology
department at River Forest had strengthened. I was
introduced to several new quality professors as well
as getting more of professors who were already
there before I left. Now that I am here at the seminary
it is interesting to be reading books written by
professors I had while in undergraduate studies as
well as to have the quality education from them
coming here.
The social life at Concordia-River Forest is unique
as well. The school is composed of a wide mix of
people from all over the United States. It is
close to the city of Chicago, which made for
some great adventures and outings. Going
downtown is always fun and it can be any
season to have a good time.
As a friend of mine told me when I first
went to Concordia, "College is what you
make it." This is probably the best piece of
advice I can give. Don't worry about such
things as how much money you will save
on your education, especially if it means
taking a toll for the quality education you
will receive. Pick a good school that will
prepare you for what lies ahead and enjoy
all it has to offer!
