President Rast Receives Honorary Doctorate and Shares Message of Encouragement at CUC

Dr. Gard, president of CUC, awards Dr. Rast with an honorary doctorate.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (CTSFW)— On Saturday, December 9, Concordia University Chicago (CUC) awarded the Rev. Dr. Lawrence R. Rast Jr., president of Concordia Theological Seminary (CTSFW), Fort Wayne, a Doctor of Letters honoris causa during their fall commencement ceremony. CUC President Dr. Daniel L. Gard, a former CTSFW faculty member and CTSFW alum (1984), was gratified to bestow this honor. “Concordia University Chicago is both proud of our distinguished alumnus and thankful for all that the Lord has done through him.” Rast, who received his B.A. in theological languages from CUC in 1986, also served as commencement speaker.

“We live in a world that threatens to overwhelm us with the rapidity with which we encounter evil and injustice,” said Rast during his commencement speech. “In the face of such challenges, David offers us Psalm 37. Please listen:

“Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
be not envious of wrongdoers!
For they will soon fade like the grass
and wither like the green herb.” (Psalm 37:1-2, ESV)
