Phoebe Academy Focuses on Role of Deaconess

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (CTS)—Phoebe Academy—High School (PA–HS), takes place on the Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., campus August 2–4, 2013. This is an opportunity for young women to learn about the work of deaconesses in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Participants will learn how deaconesses serve the church and how they are trained to serve their neighbor. For more information, go to www.ctsfw.edu/PAHS, email PhoebeAcademy@ctsfw.edu or phone 800-481-2155.

“Deaconesses have worked in the LCMS for nearly a century, yet most LCMS members are not aware of what a deaconess does and very few have met one,” explained Dr. Cynthia Lumley, associate director of Deaconess Studies at CTS. “Phoebe Academy participants will learn about the Office of Deaconess first-hand, through deaconess-led Bible studies, social time with deaconesses working within the LCMS today and by participating in a deaconess servant project. And we will have lots of fun along the way!”

The registration cost of $100 covers room, board and the weekend event for both the participant and her mother/guardian.
