Seminarian Grant (Up to $5,000 per year)

The Foundation offers financial assistance to qualified full-time seminarians preparing for pastoral
ministry in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. The Board’s intent is to support eligible
students throughout their four years of seminary study.

Award Amount and Timing

  • Annual grant: $5,000 (for each year of eligibility during seminary study).
  • Distribution timing: Grant funds are distributed in August, following initial enrollment.
  • First-year/initial funding note: Initial funding for the remainder of the current academic year is
    $2,500, payable upon receipt and acceptance of the student’s application.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, a student must:

  1. Be from one of these four districts:
    • North Dakota
    • South Dakota
    • Montana
    • North Minnesota
  2. Be a full-time seminarian for the academic year.
  3. Repayment condition if studies are not completed: If the seminarian does not complete the year of
    study, it is understood that 50% of the funds will be returned to the Foundation.

Renewal Requirement (Student Responsibility)

To receive grant funds for succeeding years, each student must inform the Foundation of their enrollment for the next
year of study prior to August 1.

  • Students should complete the application as directed and submit it for review.

Administrative Note (for coordinating offices)

To help the Foundation plan responsibly, the coordinating office is asked to provide the Foundation with the number of
qualified students, so the Board can anticipate financial obligations for the year.
