Save the dates! Luther Hostel and the Good Shepherd Institute Conference
Every November, Concordia Theological Seminary hosts two events open to laity and church workers: Luther Hostel and the Good Shepherd Institute Conference. If you love exploring confessional Lutheran theology and worship, make plans now to attend one or both of these engaging events.
LUTHER HOSTEL
What Is a Confessional Lutheran?
The 2025 Luther Hostel, scheduled for November 5–7, 2025, will explore the theme “What Is a Confessional Lutheran?” Over the course of the retreat, you’ll be able to attend presentations led by different CTSFW professors, worship with the seminary community in Kramer Chapel, visit seminary classes, interact with students, and explore our peaceful campus.
“Your faith can’t help but be strengthened during Luther Hostel,” says 2024 Luther Hostel attendee Jim McClure of Geneva, Ohio. “From the incredible knowledge of the professors to the wonderful chapel services to the fellowship with Lutherans from around the country (and, in the case of students, around the world), it is a refreshing oasis from the secular world.”

GOOD SHEPHERD INSTITUTE CONFERENCE
Skillful and Discerning: Cultivating Our Callings
“Our Lord is the Lord who serves.” This foundational statement, from the introduction to the Lutheran Service Book, underscores the church’s worship. “The Lord’s service also calls forth our service” as pastors, musicians, architects, artists, and other members of the body of Christ. How can we serve God and our neighbor skillfully, beautifully, and with care and concern? How do we operate within our vocations while avoiding the extremes of elitism on one side and mediocrity on another?
The 2025 Good Shepherd Institute Conference November 9–11 will address these questions under the theme “Skillful and Discerning: Cultivating Our Callings,” with encouragement and application for congregational life together. Plenary speakers include Rev. David Fleming, Kantor Kevin Hildebrand, Mr. Scott Riedel, and Dr. Ken Schurb, with special music and worship services planned for each evening.
