A Supportive Community
Families relocating to Fort Wayne will find a strong support network, both at CTSFW and in the broader Fort Wayne community. Spouses and families are central to residential formation, and we want spouses to thrive while their loved ones pursue pastoral ministry or diaconal service.
Seminary Women’s Assembly
The Seminary Women’s Assembly (SWA) creates a community for wives of pastoral ministry students and deaconess students to meet and support one another. SWA hosts events, offers helpful tips to newcomers, encourages the wives of vicars and candidates, and prays for wives and deaconesses in their placements after seminary.
SWA events include lectures by seminary professors, social gatherings, and a sendoff party for women moving for their husbands’ vicarages and calls and for deaconess students going on internship and into full-time diaconal service.
For Families
Families are vital to campus life at CTSFW. Spouses and children are welcome and encouraged to participate in our community by attending chapel, going to coffee hour, and joining students and faculty at Gemütlichkeit. We also have on-campus resources and events specifically for families and children, such as our playscape, Little Lambs Storytime, and the Children’s Choir.
The Entering the Biblical World Playscape is designed especially for children at the Seminary. The playscape allows children to interact with the biblical world that they learn about at home, in chapel, and in church while spending time outside in God’s creation.
Little Lambs Storytime meets in Kroemer Library’s Children and Family Room every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. while classes are in session. Storytime fosters early faith development in an inviting atmosphere, and is perfect for preschoolers and their caregivers.
Our Children’s Choir is designed for home schooled children, ages 8–13, from the CTSFW community.
Education
Indiana’s Choice Scholarship Program provides state funding to qualifying students in order to offset tuition costs at participating Choice schools, including many Lutheran schools. More information about school choice is available from the Indiana Department of Education.
The Fort Wayne area is home to eighteen Lutheran grade schools and one Lutheran high school. You and your children can easily join the community of Fort Wayne Lutherans in the Lutheran school system. For a full list of Lutheran schools, visit The Lutheran Schools Partnership.
Fort Wayne has an active home school community. Athletic, music, art, theatre, and STEM programs are available to area home school families. Home school co-ops supplement these useful online resources:
- Classical Conversations
- Fort Wayne Area Home Schools
- Home School Legal Defense Association (Indiana)
- Home School Foundation
Kroemer Library on CTSFW’s campus also has home school curriculum resources, and the athletics department hosts open gyms on campus for families who home school.
There are many non-Lutheran private schools in the Fort Wayne area. A full list is available through the Indiana Non-Public Education Association.
