CTSFW Deaconess Students Receive Placements


FORT WAYNE, Ind. (CTSFW)—Placements for deaconess students were announced, Thursday, April 21, during morning chapel service at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana (CTSFW).

Prior to announcing the deaconess placements, Dr. James Bushur, CTSFW director of Deaconess Formation, explained that the Seminary will announce deaconess placements several times a year, “Instead of limiting deaconess placements to a single day, we’ll be announcing our deaconess placements throughout the year, as they happen, so we can, as we do today, give thanks to God for these calls and, of course, pray for the Lord’s blessings upon our students as they begin their service to the Church.”

A deaconess is a woman who is theologically trained and dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Christ through acts of mercy and human care. The Deaconess Program at CTSFW provides competent women with a rigorous theological education at the master’s level. This training equips women for professional service in the Church in such areas as counseling, social ministry, visitation of the sick and dying, and teaching the faith under the direction of the pastoral office.
