Bach in Fort Wayne
Celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation
June 23–25, 2017
What: Concordia Theological Seminary (CTSFW), Fort Wayne, is seeking college-aged singers to sing Bach Cantata 137, “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” for a special Sunday observance of the Presentation of the Augsburg Confession, June 25, 2017. The choir and soloists will be selected by audition. In addition to the cantata, they will sing other music for this Sunday. The choir is directed by CTSFW Kantor Kevin Hildebrand.
Who: College or college-aged singers (age 18–25); singers need not be currently enrolled in an academic program.
When: Friday, June 23 (arrive between noon and 1 pm) through Sunday afternoon, June 25, 2017.
Where: Registration and rehearsal will take place on the CTSFW campus. Lodging will also be provided on campus (local participants do not need campus housing).
The choir will sing at two downtown Fort Wayne congregations of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod on the morning of June 25. Modeled after Bach’s practice in Leipzig with the choir alternating between St. Thomas and St. Nikolai churches, the choir will sing at the early morning service at newly-renovated Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the late morning service at historic St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The cantata will be performed in English translation, accompanied by professional chamber orchestra.
Registration cost: Zero. Designated gifts will allow singers to participate at no cost, besides their transportation to and from Fort Wayne. Friday dinner, all meals Saturday, and Sunday breakfast and lunch are included.
What do I need to provide? An application, a recommendation, and an audio or video audition.

Recommendation: A choir director, voice teacher or other knowledgeable person who can comment on your voice should provide a recommendation. The recommendation should be sent to Music@ctsfw.edu.
Audition requirements: Each singer should prepare his/her respective voice part on movement one, accompanied by piano/keyboard. A pdf of the score is available here. Solo audition requirements: Singers who would also like to be considered as vocal soloists (in addition to singing the choruses) should prepare their respective voice part aria, accompanied by piano/keyboard, and also submit a digital audio or video recording to Music@ctsfw.edu via Dropbox.
Deadline: Application and audio/video audition uploads are due by
