Event Information

The Music and Chapel department in combination with the Good Shepherd Institute is pleased to invite all to attend a Choral Vespers service at Kramer Chapel on the campus of CTSFW, on November 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Set within the service of Vespers, the Schola Cantorum sings a wonderful piece of music In observation of the 350th anniversary of Schütz’s death,  the Musikalische Exequien. This striking composition consists of a set of Bible verses and hymn stanzas that were compiled by a Lutheran nobleman, who had all of these texts inscribed on his custom-made coffin and then commissioned Schutz to set the entire group of texts to music to be sung at his funeral.

This is also the 150th anniversary of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ birth, so his energetic setting of Psalm 47 is a crackling (and loud) partner to the ethereal Schütz music.

This event is free and open to the public as part of the annual Good Shepherd Institute Conference. For complete details about the conference and/or to register to attend the entire conference, visit ctsfw.edu/gsi. Please note that you do not need to attend the conference to enjoy this musical opportunity. We welcome you to worship with us during this Vespers service and hope to see you in Kramer Chapel on November 6.
