Entry Level Competency Exams (ELCEs)

Entry-level competency exams are often required for students entering specific programs at the seminary. Please select your program of interest below to learn about the required exams. 

Entry Level Competency Exams (ELCEs)

There are five exams that make up the ELCE requirements for the Master of Divinity Program: Old Testament, New Testament, Christian Doctrine, Hebrew and Greek.

Each exam has 100 questions. You will be given 75 minutes to complete each exam. The exam questions were developed by professors from the Concordia University System and both seminaries. These exams are used by the Seminary to show you have a basic understanding of each content area and are well prepared to continue your studies at the graduate level.

At the end of the exam, you will be given your score. This score will be forwarded automatically to the Registrar’s Office of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne.

These exams are used by the Seminary to show you have a basic understanding of each content area and are well prepared to continue your studies at the graduate level.
