You’ve attended Sunday School, Confirmation instruction and perhaps a Bible Study on a books of the Bible here and there; but you’ve never had a chance to study the whole Bible from cover to cover. You are familiar with some of the stories, but don’t know much about the way the text of the Bible got to us. You’d love to know something more about God’s Word.
You’re beginning to think of studying to be a pastor or a deaconess, but wonder if you will ever be able to keep up with seminary classes about the Bible. You worry that you might not understand the first day’s lectures.
You’re a college student at a major state university and need to take classes to satisfy your general educational requirements. What if you could take these classes from a seminary and transfer the credits to your university?
Introduction to the Old Testament (Old Testament Bible, PRSB 100) is designed to help you to get to know the Old Testament as a whole and prepare you to take seminary-level courses on books in the Old Testament.
This class is designed to be taught online. It also is offered on the same schedule as the Seminary’s residential classes. The content of the class is presented through short online video presentations (typically 3 to 5 minutes long), featuring CTSFW professors and uses the textbook the class requires. Throughout the week, you engage in discussions of the week’s topics in much the same way as comments on Facebook or a blog entry. Ungraded quizzes help the you learn the facts and concepts needed to be truly biblically literate. That knowledge is tested in a formal online test three times during the course. At the end of each class, the student writes a salvation history blog post in which they tell the story of salvation as it unfolded in the events reported by the Holy Scripture.
This course is designed for those planning to attend the seminary as a Master of Divinity or Alternate Route student. To fulfill the New Testament and Old Testament Bible pre-seminary requirements, this course must be taken no more than four years before the student matriculation date in either program.
This course is also open to those interested in furthering their knowledge of the Old and New Testaments. This course could also possibly be transferred into an undergraduate degree program. Prior approval of the receiving institution is recommended.
