Learn With Your Seminary—October 31–November 6

One of the class sessions of the Good Shepherd Institute Conference last year.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (CTSFW)—Concordia Theological Seminary (CTSFW), Fort Wayne, will host the following conferences for those who enjoy theological learning and traditional Lutheran worship:

October 31–November 2: Luther Hostel
Suffering and the Theology of the Cross: 500 Years After the Heidelberg Disputation
All people go through suffering to some extent, whether in health, finances, relationships, or spiritual issues. The Church itself will have ups and downs in the days ahead, but by understanding suffering through the theology of the cross—that is, that Christ never abandons His people but rather bears us through our suffering—we also see the joy that we have in the Christian life.

Cost for attendance is $200. To register or learn more about the schedule and speakers, go to www.ctsfw.edu/LutherHostel. Registering for Luther Hostel will also give you a 50% off discount code for the Good Shepherd Institute conference that begins the day after Luther Hostel ends.

November 4–6: Good Shepherd Institute
Let Us Pray: The Church at Prayer
The 19th annual Good Shepherd Institute conference will focus on prayer, featuring speakers from the CTSFW faculty as well as pastors, deaconesses, kantors, musicians, and professors of music. Presentations will cover such topics as “The Church at Prayer Includes Children;” “Singing the Canticles of the Daily Office;” “O Come, Let Us Sing…but How?” “Are You an Unwitting Ritualist?” “Parish Worship Planning;” “The Books are Open Then to All;” and “The Legacy of Loehe: Works of Mercy in the Church.”

Full registration costs $130, though there are discounts for Luther Hostel attendees, seniors, group and spouse registrations, Monday-only registration, plus meal options. Non-CTSFW seminary and undergraduate students may attend at no cost, though they still need to register. To register or to learn more about the speakers and topics, visit www.ctsfw.edu/GSI.

November 6: Advent Preaching Workshop
I Can(’t) Wait!
The Rev. Dr. Ryan Tietz will lead this year’s annual Advent Preaching Workshop for pastors. The workshop takes place after the Good Shepherd Institute conference concludes, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and going until 8:30 p.m. Registration costs $40 and includes dinner.
