This past week, CTSFW was very blessed to be able to partner with the Lutheran Basketball Association of America (LBAA) to host the opening ceremony for the 74th annual national basketball tournament. More than 2,000 people, from Lutheran schools across the country, came to the Seminary’s campus, filling the Wambsganss Gym with excited teams and fans.
LBAA President Rob Gasser and CTFSW President Dr. Lawrence R. Rast Jr. welcomed the crowd, followed by an opening prayer by Director of Admission and Christ Academy Rev. Matt Wietfeldt. Local Holy Cross Lutheran Church Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Thomas Ahlersmeyer offered words of inspiration and encouragement inspired by Paul’s words to the Philippians and the true meaning of “I can do all things through him who strengthens me” (4:13).
A gym full of believers recited the LBAA oath of participation together:
“In the name of Christ Jesus our Lord, we promise to take part in this tournament of champions, respecting one another, abiding by the rules that govern this event and in the true spirit of sportsmanship, make use of our abilities to the honor and glory of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.”
The evening concluded with announcements, a closing prayer, and the singing of the Doxology, led by Gasser and Andrada. Every guest was given a squishy blue CTSFW mini-basketball as a souvenir, and the rest of the tournament took place at Turnstone’s Plassman Athletic Center.
It was an honor and a privilege to be able to work with the LBAA on this event and meet brothers and sisters in Christ from so many different places. Thank you to everyone who came and helped make the occasion special and memorable!
