Public Convocation: Pastoral Care and Preaching in Light of the Hidden God

Dr. Joshuah C. Miller, Augsburg University, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (CTSFW)—The Pastoral Ministry and Missions Department at Concordia Theological Seminary (CTSFW), Fort Wayne, is sponsoring a public convocation on Wednesday, May 9 at 11:00 a.m. in Loehe 7. Dr. Joshua C. Miller, instructor in the religion department at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will speak on “Pastoral Care and Preaching in Light of the Hidden God.”

“In The Bondage of the Will,” Dr. Miller explained, “Martin Luther says that anytime we talk about God in theology, we need to distinguish between God as he is preached in Christ and God as he is not preached, hidden in himself. If the hidden God works ‘all things,’ as Luther says, this has immense implications for how believers understand their experiences of the problem of evil and suffering.”

Dr. Miller is the author of “Hanging by a Promise: The Hidden God in the Theology of Oswald Bayer” (Eugene, OR: Pickwick Papers/Wipf and Stock Publications, 2015).
