Our most recent special Word for the Wee event featured the theme “Stations of Lent.” Using a trail of clothing and palm branches, the wee ones stopped at various spots in the library to hear stories and peruse beautiful art. Their first stop was Ash Wednesday, where they got to feel the scratchy itch of burlap and considered dressing in sackcloth and sitting in ashes. Next, the children arrived at Palm Sunday. They heard “hosannas” and saw artwork created by Chinese and Ethiopian artists. Holy Thursday was next. While the kids investigated small coins, they learned of the Lord’s Supper, Judas’s betrayal, and even enjoyed a small “Garden of Gethsemane,” where they learned how Jesus prayed. At the Good Friday stop, they held a large nail and talked about Jesus dying to save them from their sins. Lastly, they were greeted with a large stone, rolled away from the tomb, and stories of the resurrection. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
